5 must-go Yakiniku spots in Osaka

Nothing screams hot weather better than an ice cold beer and some delicious grilled meats.

If you’re not familiar with Yakiniku, it is a popular Japanese dining style that revolves around grilling bite-sized pieces of meat, typically beef, over an open flame. The name “yakiniku” translates to “grilled meat” in Japanese, and it embodies both a culinary experience and a social activity. Originating from Korean barbecue, yakiniku has evolved into a distinct Japanese culinary tradition that emphasizes the art of grilling and savoring high-quality meats.

Now that I’ve gotten you excited about it, here are my 5 favourite go-to spots in Osaka when it comes to Yakiniku!

1. Aburiya (あぶりや)

If you’re going to catch me at any Yakiniku place, this one has to be my favourite of all times. For the price and quality you are getting, you just can’t beat it.

Aburiya is a popular all-you-can eat Yakiniku chain that serves premium cuts of beef and an extensive side menu.

Although there are restaurants all across Osaka, my favourite one is the Umeda Hankyu one. I would recommend to call and reserve in advance to get a seat by the windows gazing over the cities skyline.

For ¥3,980 (¥4,378) you can enjoy up to 2hours.

Address: 〒530-0012 Osaka, Kita Ward, Shibata, 1 Chome−1−4 阪急ターミナルビル 17F

2 minute walk from Osaka-Umeda Hankyu Station.

2. Yakiniku Jack Umeda (焼肉ジャック 梅田店 )

This spot has been all over my social media feeds lately. Amongst young Japanese, it’s a definite must visit spot to go!

One of their most popular menu is their thinly sliced grilled wagyu served with rice and egg to wrap it up into an umami bomb! Just talking about it I can almost taste it! Make sure you ask for “aburi niku makizushi” (炙り肉巻き寿司)

Also an all-you-can eat style for as ¥2980 on weekdays.

Address: 〒530-0027 Osaka, Kita Ward, Doyamacho, 2−11 MKビートルビル 3F

9 minute walk from Osaka JR station

3. Sex Machine (セックスマシーン)

If you are staying in the Namba area, you have to check out Sex Machine. When it comes to meat, these guys knows what they are doing.

With 30 years of business and experience, there is no doubt that you will have a great experience here! This store uses charcoal to grill your meat, leaving a smoky and fragrant taste.

My recommendation for this place is the beef tongue. Bare with me here. All though it is not a common cut of meat, it is a delicacy in Japan. It is soft and tender, and dipped in some lemon juice and pepper, I promise you, you will start craving for it.

4. Yakiniku Maru (焼肉マル)

Beloved by locals in Osaka, this restaurant is a must-visit if you want to treat yourself to some proper, high quality meal. They offer the highest grade (A5) and all of the different cuts of meat to try.

Yakiniku Maru’s location have limited seats so I would recommend to book in advance or go in smaller parties. Everything is prepared to order so there is no doubt about it’s freshness.

They have locations in Shinsaibashi, Umeda (Kitashinchi) and Minamimorimachi. All stores are easily accessible by train.

3 minute walk from Nagahoribashi Station.

5. Sora Tsuruhashi Honten

If you’re coming to Osaka and you want Yakiniku, Tsuruhashi station will be your paradise. Tsuruhashi is Osaka’s Korean town and it is famously known for the abundance of Yakiniku options.

While you’re there, you hace to check Sora Tsuruhashi out. It is an oldy but a goody. This black is so popular amongst local, that there is usually a line by 18h30. To guarantee a spot, make sure you get there early.

Mind you that the staff is all Japanese and there is no English menu as this is a very local spot.

Address: 1-10 Shimoajiharacho, Tennoji Ward, Osaka, 543-0025

Hope you get to visit one of these places while you are visiting Osaka! And don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try out interesting new cuts of meat. Who knows, maybe you’ll discover something new!
